The Creative Cajun
A few years ago, I realized I had too many humorous family stories, interesting perspectives, hobbies and just general information floating around in my brain and I needed an outlet. I started a blog to store these thoughts, perspectives and tales of growing up in a unique culture with some pretty unique experiences. I share them all on my blog along with thoughts on life, some information about Cajun culture and sometimes just silly or inspiring stories.
Outdoor Activities
I love spending time outdoors. During the weekends or evenings, you’ll find me hiking, kayaking, doing yoga on my SUP or planning my next outdoor adventure. Some of my favorite outdoor trips have been ziplining for my birthday and kayaking with the manatees in South Florida.
Never Stop Learning
I have a passion for learning new skills. I reguarly seek out new, interesting hobbies or skills to further my learning. In the past few years I’ve learned to sew, knit, crochet. I’ve made my own personal care products, learned to dye fabric (multiple ways) and spent time learning more about how to shoot photos in manual mode with a digital SLR camera.
I’m currently enrolled in a month-long baking class where we are learning techniques to create our own cookie, pie and cake recipes. In case you’re wondering….yes, you can get sick of cookie tasting. I thought it was impossible. It is not. In the next month, I’ll be enrolled in a class to learn to code in Python.
I feel that being in a mindset of being open to learning new skills brings a variety, interest and meaning to life for me.
Adopt a Flood Family
My greatest joy is creative problem solving – I love to help someone work through an issue or coming up with a creative solution to solve a problem. One of those creative solutions came to life after a 500-year flood that impacted a large portion of South Lousiana (my hometown & where I attended college).
I created the Adopt a Flood Family project. Within a few hours one evening, a domain was registered, site created in WordPress with forms to intake information for families in need and families/organizations that wished to assist. People from all over the United States adopted families in need, I made friends all over the country from Wisconsin to California. Over a period of 8 months, we were able to assist over 300 families in need. It was a life changing experience for me and it was an incredible honor to assist these families. It is an experience that I’ll remember for the rest of my life. When your intuition speaks to you, listen – there can be incredible moments in store if you listen to that voice inside saying “Don’t be afraid, just do it!”
Minnie
I rescued a mutt named Minnie in 2018 and she and I have become best friends. She’s the smartest, most lovable dog I’ve ever known. We are sidekicks and neither of us would change that for the world.
Yes, I take her on my SUP and in my kayak. No, she doesn’t really like it. She tolerates it, but hops off the moment we approach the shore.
